Calling All Sharks and Mermaids! The world-renowned Santa Clara Artistic Swimming are proud to announce that our annual Assessment Day will be held Saturday, August 28th, 2021 from 8 am- 3 pm. The assessment events will be conducted at Gunderson High School, located at 622 Gaundabert Lane in San Jose, CA 95136. Several of Santa Clara Artistic Swimming coaching staff will be performing the assessments. There is no cost to participate in the Santa Clara Artistic Swimming Assessment Day.
We are looking for all athletes 6-10 years of age who are interested in pursuing our year-round competitive programs. Special consideration will be offered to 11- and 12-year-olds who have an extensive background in a supporting sport such as gymnastics, ballet, ice skating, or swimming. Please note that all participants must be water-safe and feel comfortable off the wall in the deep end of the pool.
All participants should arrive in their bathing suits, with their hair up and wearing a face mask due to COVID-19 precautions. They will need a swimming cap, goggles, nose clip, yoga mat, and towel. Each participant is encouraged to bring and use a refillable water bottle. Please note that no food or snacks of any kind will be allowed on deck for safety reasons. Face masks will be required to be worn by athletes during all land evaluations and by assessors at all times. Social distancing will be strongly encouraged. Athletes will remove their masks before entering the water.
Each participant will be evaluated for 20- 25 minutes on their flexibility, extension, swimming ability, athleticism, maturity, and overall Aquamaids/Aquamen readiness. Again, we reiterate this assessment is specifically geared toward athletes who are interested in pursuing our year-round competitive program.
Spaces within the Aquamaids/Aquamen program are limited. Each participant will receive an email with their program recommendation on Sunday, August 29th. Athletes who are assigned to the waiting list will remain on the waiting list for the duration of the forthcoming season. If and when a position becomes available, those on the waiting list will be contacted in order and offered the available position.
